Everything you need to know about Key Kegs, the wine keg system and the kegs from Bodega Los Aljibes.
A Key Keg is a disposable, 100% recyclable 20-litre wine keg using Bag-in-Keg™ technology: a flexible inner bag filled with wine that is completely separated from the propellant gas (compressed air, CO₂ or nitrogen). When dispensing, the gas presses on the outside of the bag without contacting the wine, eliminating oxidation entirely. The result is consistently fresh wine, glass after glass, for a minimum of 3 months after tapping.
Thanks to the Bag-in-Keg™ system, wine keeps in perfect condition for a minimum of 3 months after the first glass is poured. Unlike an open bottle that deteriorates in 24–48 hours, the inner bag of the Key Keg never contacts the gas, so the wine does not oxidise. This completely eliminates waste and guarantees the same quality from the first to the last glass.
Los Key Kegs are compatible with compressed air, CO₂ or nitrogen. Since the gas never contacts the wine, the choice of gas does not affect the flavour. Many venues simply use a compressed air pump, eliminating the need for gas cylinders and reducing operating costs. A KeyKeg Coupler (universal ½" or 5/8" connection) is required, with a working pressure of 1.5–3 bar.
A 20-litre Key Keg is equivalent to approximately 26.6 bottles of 750 ml. Depending on glass size, you can pour between 100 and 133 glasses (serving between 150 ml and 200 ml per glass). This makes the Key Keg the most cost-effective solution for bars, restaurants and events with high service volumes.
No. Unlike traditional beer kegs, Key Kegs are single-use and do not need to be returned. Once empty, they are easily dismantled by separating the inner bag from the outer body and placed in the plastic recycling bin. Over 30% of the material is recycled and 81% of the keg is circular after its useful life. This eliminates the costs and reverse logistics of traditional deposits.
Wine on tap is the system by which wine is served directly from a keg connected to a dispensing tap, just like draught beer. Its main advantages are:
Bodega Los Aljibes offers one of the most comprehensive wine keg ranges in Spain. Available in 20-litre Key Keg under the Viña Aljibes and Viña Galana labels:
Yes. Bodega Los Aljibes Key Kegs are specifically designed for international export. The Bag-in-Keg format withstands sea, road and air transport without degrading wine quality. Kegs stack easily on standard pallets and require no specific cold chain (though storage between 5°C and 20°C is recommended). We currently export to markets including the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, the United States and Asia.
Yes, and it can even be superior in freshness. Wine filled directly into the Key Keg from the winery does not go through the glass bottling process, eliminating risks such as cork taint (TCA) or oxidation from a faulty stopper. At Bodega Los Aljibes, the same quality wine that goes into bottles is kegged under maximum hygiene conditions with minimal sulphite use. The Bag-in-Keg system optimally preserves aromas, acidity and freshness.
The basic equipment to install wine on tap with Key Kegs includes:
Yes, the Key Keg is one of the most sustainable options in the wine industry. A 20-litre keg replaces 26.6 glass bottles, eliminating an enormous amount of emissions associated with glass manufacturing, transport and recycling. According to product lifecycle studies, the Key Keg reduces the carbon footprint by 96% compared to bottled wine over 20 years of use. 30% of the keg material is recycled and 81% can re-enter the materials cycle. At Bodega Los Aljibes, sustainability is part of the production DNA.
